Cuba Libre, Oil Painting of Old Havana by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Florida has been enriched by the Cuban culture. While researching the history of both, I found a restaurant in Central Florida that has created an Old Havana street scene in the restaurant interior. This inspired the painting! Then I listened to the local Rumba Brothers play the bongos and guitar which inspired the Cuban musicians in the painting. I found out the Royal Cuban palm tree can grow to 100ft! Cuban culture has brought so much to Florida...Cuban food like plantains and black beans and rice, mojitos, great dances like the cha cha and salsa, and emphasis on the importance of family. Here's to Cuba Libre! 20" H x 16" W Price: $600.00

The Courtyard, Palms and Fountain by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Sitting in a large window overlooking a well manicured courtyard, I painted live inside a gallery. The view was of palms, flowers and a lovely fountain in the middle of a large upscale outdoor mall in Orlando. People love to watch artists paint. I should have added all those cute faces pressed against the window!! It was fun! 5x7 original oil.

A New Day Blooms, a Plein Air Original Oil Painting by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

"A New Day Blooms" framed 8x10 original plein air oil painting. I found out that Monet would go to the same site for days to complete a painting. If he could do that, so could I! I painted this one morning in a park. Later I went back and red flowers were blooming. I happily added the color. Thanks, Monet!

Osprey Over St John's River, Small Florida Oil Painting by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

Watching the osprey circle overhead, I was mesmerized. The large bird spotted fish in the tannic brown waters of the St. John's River. Bright green aquatic plants lined the side of the river next to mangroves, cypress and grasses. I had a great view with my easel on a houseboat in the river. A great way to paint plein air, capturing part of the pristine wilderness! 5" H x 7" W Price: $75.00

Afternoon thunderstorms happen every afternoon in the Florida summertime. But when the rain is over and the light breaks through the sky, it is a beautiful sight. The old rowboat and palm tree made a great composition. 16x20 oil.

Butterfly Garden, Impressions of Flower Garden by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

So much fun painting with kids in our butterfly garden! We did acrylic paintings, layering in impressionistic style while trying to catch the sun on the salvia. Butterflies fluttered nearby. I always use acrylics with children because water is always on hand. I had as much fun as they did. We filled our canvases and souls with color! 12 x 12" acrylic on canvas.

Walking in Sunshine, by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

A friend grew up with a large painting hanging in her family's living room. When her dad died, she wanted to have this painting for the special memories associated with it. But, unfortunately, it had been given away. That's when an artist can help! I recreated her painting on a smaller scale. What a joy to see her face when I presented the painting! May we all "walk in sunshine" now and through eternity!

The Eastern Gate, Golden Gate in Jerusalem with Palms, by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

A friend's trip to Jerusalem inspired this small oil painting of the Eastern Gate. Around the sides of the painting are written the words, "He will come from the East. The Eastern Gate waits quietly. Golden Gate of destiny, sealed in stone. Waiting to sing, Hosanna to the King." I hope to go there one day to see the gate and the palms. 4x4 oil.
