Paradise Found” If you could imagine serenity, it would be a quiet, uninhabited island of gently blowing palms. The white edge of the blue sea caresses the soft pink sand. The painting has a soft, quiet feeling. The pastels of the sand and sea soften the shadows under the palms. In the distance, there is another island. The afternoon clouds are building and billowing. Islands like this beckon boaters. Like in this painting, those who discover these islands experience the tranquility of paradise, if only for an afternoon. This is another painting in my "springtime in Florida" series with a focus on the yellow tabebuia tree. This tree blooms brilliant
yellow petals which fall to the ground below. There are many types of tabebuia trees, but the yellow is my favorite. This painting captures a memory of a springtime walk in Leu Gardens. Impasto brushstrokes built up the petals. 12 x 12" oil on board, $350 and beautifully framed.

“Bursting Forth” A tabebuia tree bursting forth in brilliant yellow blooms is a sight to behold in the spring. I used thick impasto paint so the tree seems to bloom right off of the painting. As the tree blooms, petals fall, creating a carpet of yellow underneath. The twisting trunk swings to the right to balance the uphill movement to the left. The Inlet, a Florida Oil Landscape of Beach and Ocean by Judy Batterson

Tired of cold weather? Ready to go to the beach? This oil painting captures the sandy shores of Ponce Inlet, where the
ocean meets the river. The background shows a sailboat in the ocean while the foreground shows the turn of the water into the river. Sandy beaches form the shorelines until the river deepens. The Inlet is known as a gateway to recreation as boats travel to and fro along the river into the ocean. It is also known for sharks, but I didn't paint any fins! 16 x 20 oil on masonite $1200

One of the most beautiful trees to bloom in spring is the yellow tabebuia tree. The yellow color is brilliant and lasts about two weeks. As the flowers drop, they look like yellow snowfall beneath the tree. This tree is the highlight of spring in Florida. The color is so vibrant, it is breathtaking! I used heavy impasto paint to emphasize the blooms. Framed oil on masonite. 12 x 12" $350

A little bit of Florida now in Wisconsin! The owner of this painting has redone her living room to showcase "Poinciana Path". Originally from Florida, she wants to keep that tropical feeling while the Wisconsin snow surrounds her house. This painting shows a poinciana tree in full bloom with the wonderful red flowers that are so striking. The backlighting highlights the richly textured tree. Rock of Ages, a sequence showing oil layering, by Judy Batterson

The finished painting! In the woods in Arcadia, Florida, there is a dry creek bed that serves as a trail that goes deep into the palmettos, palms and trees. When the sun is high, the light hits a clearing and highlights a rock where a person can rest while hunting or hiking. The rock marks a special place for all who walk through these woods. It never changes like the shifting shadows, thus the title. This painting was a commission and a joy to paint every layer. This commission was painted in memory of a very special man who loved to hunt in these woods. 11 x 14" giclees and prints available on request.
